In newborns, male breast enlargement may be associated with milk flow (galactorrhea).

Disorders in prolactin release, i.e. enhanced prolactin levels, lead to disorders in the sexual functions of both men and women. Un-called for production of milk (galactorrhea) and suppression of ovulation, or the amenorrhea resulting therefrom, and the inability to conceive are caused by enhanced prolactin levels.
