A table of contents is the structured overview at the front of a book, report, or document that lists chapters and sections along with their page numbers. The standard German translation is a single word: Inhaltsverzeichnis.

Notes
"Table of contents" and "index" are not interchangeable: the table of contents appears at the front, listing chapters in sequential order; the index appears at the back, sorted alphabetically by keyword.
